Leadership Team

Mr. Don Tuan Phuong, Founder & Director 

Also: Founder & President, Volunteers for Peace Vietnam

Mr. Phuong was born in 1976 in a rural part of Hanoi Capital. He moved to study in Hanoi when he was 15. Formerly, Phuong was a lecturer in Hanoi National University and he worked for several international organizations in Vietnam in different fields including agro-forestry, rural development, hunger elimination and poverty reduction, children and education, public heath and environment.

Mr. Phuong founded Volunteers for Peace Vietnam in 2005 with the mission to promote international volunteer exchange with over 10,000 international volunteers coming to Vietnam and over 15,000 local ones have participated in different programs organized by VPV in Vietnam, of which over 100 Vietnamese youngsters have undertaken a foreign exchange experience.

Later he also founded the Center for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS), which aims to promote education for sustainable development. CSDS carries out various activities to support disadvantaged communities and offers opportunities for youth engagement and service learning. Mr. Phuong has profound experience in international volunteer exchange and intercultural learning, having been to over 40 countries!

Nguyen Thi Kim Que, Vice-Director

Que was born in 1978 in a rural part of Hanoi. She moved to study Hanoi for her university studies when she was 19. After graduation, Que worked as a lecturer at National University of Natural Sciences and as a social worker at some international NGOs. Que started working as the Vice Director for Center for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) in 2011, bringing to CSDS her passion of promoting international volunteer exchange and youth capacity building. In the last few years, Que and CSDS have also intensively promoted education for sustainable development, implemented various activities to support disadvantaged communities and offered opportunities for youth engagement and service learning. Que has profound experience in global exchange and intercultural learning. She has been to over 20 different countries around the world and she likes meeting people of different backgrounds.

Phuong Lam, Operations Manager

Lam was born in 1972 in a small town in Ha Tay province. She holds a Master Degree and graduated from Hanoi University for Teachers of Foreign Languages (now called University of Languages and International Studies, Vienam National University, Hanoi). Before she came to CSDS in July 2015, she worked for over ten years as an English teacher. She also worked for some US-based INGOs, namely as Pathfinder International, Population Services International and Helen Keller International where she was in charge of Administration, Procurement, Finance and Human Resources. She brings extensive experience to CSDS and hopes to contribute her part to the development of this young and active organization.


Administrative Team

Huyen Be, Administration Program Officer

Huyen was born in 1993 in a rural part of Hanoi. She studied Finance and Banking at university from 2011 for 4 years. During the time, she joined a lot of activities, workshops and events related to youth and supported education for children in some mountainous areas. After graduation, she spent 10 months in Slovakia as a volunteer of the European Voluntary Service Program to teach English for students at primary school and Keric (an NGO in Slovakia). Besides that, she and other volunteers organized some special events like International Christmas, Halloween Night, and supported some trainings in Keric. Huyen started working as Admin Program Officer at CSDS in 2016. In her free time, she likes listening to music, spending time with her family and friends, studying Korean and travelling. She has traveled about 8 different countries in the world.

Le Ngoc Linh, Accounting Assistant 

Linh graduated from the Hanoi University for Languages and International Studies in 2015 with a BA in English Language Teaching. She was born and raised in Hanoi, with a great passion for languages and travelling. She was a volunteer with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where she helped promote conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and sustainable development in Vietnam. Linh joined CSDS in 2015 and has been working as a accounting assistant since then. Besides working with numbers and papers, Linh also have chances to work with other teams in CSDS like assisting international volunteers and supporting many workshops and public events. She loves to work with different people as she can learn new things from their knowledge and experience. Recently, with the knowledge she brought back from Poland, Linh has been working on a GO_PRO project, where she and her colleagues teach children how to built robots from LEGO and program them.

Youth Development Team

Vũ Duy KiênProject Coordinator

Kien was born in 1988 in Hanoi. He graduated from Hanoi Open university with a degree in Electronic Telecommunication. During his time at university, he founded and was president of a volunteer club. In May 2010 he won first place in the Volunteer Scholarship contest organized by Volunteers For Peace Vietnam (VPV) and became a long term volunteer in Germany. He worked for Volunteers For Peace Vietnam from 2010 to 2016 in the field camp program and he has been the president of the VPV club since 2011. With considerable experience in the local volunteer movement, he was the president of the Hanoi Association of Volunteers from 2012 to 2014. He joined CSDS in April 2016 as a Project Coordinator.

Đức Nguyễn, Program Officer

Duc has been working for CSDS for almost 2 years as a Program Officer. He likes playing football and participating youth activities. His goal is to be a good facilitator in the future.

International Volunteer Team

Thuy Nguyen (Nguyễn Thị Thủy), Program Officer

Thuy graduated from Hanoi University with Bachelors degree in International Studies in 2013. Just after graduation, she started her very first job at CSDS as a Local Project Coordinator of the New Horizons Project. She spent 2.5 years with the project, took another job as a Civil Servant and then came back to CSDS again in 2016. Now, she is one of the Program Officers of the International Volunteering Program, coordinating volunteers working at NGO placements. With her, CSDS is not only a place to work and earn for her living but also a cradle nurturing her capacity with support and care from her lovely and helpful staff and volunteers.

Hung Ta, Program Support Officer

Born and raised in Hanoi, Hung (26 years old) graduated from Hanoi University in 2013, with a major in in Tourism and Hospitality Management. Before joining CSDS, he worked in various positions in his trained field. He says, “Everything I did seemed to lead me to CSDS. If this is not fate that brought me here, I do not know what is”. Currently, he is coordinating International Volunteers of the Teaching Project and working with Group Volunteering. Passionate about travel and foods, he always happy to share his local knowledge with CSDS’s International volunteers, making sure they will have the best time living in the Capital.

Nguyen Ha Quynh Anh, Program Officer

Quynh Anh was born in 1993 in Hanoi, she has been working in CSDS since 2015 as Program officer after graduating from Hanoi Law University. She passionate about advocating for marginalized and vulnerable people, therefore, her main responsibility in CSDS is to coordinate International volunteers working with disabled children or elderly people. She is also coordinating a Scholarship Program named “Bright Future Fund”, which aims to provide support to poor students. You can find her in Hoan Kiem lake every weekend as it is place that she can find inner peace after a hard working week.

Khiem Nguyen, Program Officer

Nguyen Ba Khiem was born in 1983 and graduated from Hanoi Industrial University. He participated in a 9-month volunteer work experience in Estonia and Germany as a field camp leader, and attended training courses on world cultural heritages and filmmaking in Korea in 2010 and France in 2015. He participated in human rights seminars and environment in Germany and Italy in 2014. Khiem worked for VPV from 2005 to 2016, and in June 2016 started to work for CSDS.

Hong Nguyen, Project Coordinator

Hong was born in 1994 in a small and peaceful village on the outskirts of Hanoi. After graduating from university, she started working as a local project-coordinator for the Center for Sustainable Development Studies’s New Horizons Project, which aims to provide rural children with English education for free. Aside from her work as an  English tutor, she gained over four years experience working with students and their parents. She is responsible for organizing activities, supporting foreign volunteers, arranging the activities in the schools, collecting data, and maintaining public relations. She has had a lot of memorable experiences with CSDS both in work and activities. In particular, working in New Horizons project brings her opportunities to work in an active environment with different people from different countries.

Minh, Program South Coordinator

Minh graduated University of Information Technology and College of Foreign Language. After donating countless hours of time to volunteer activities, he joined Volunteers For Peace Vietnam (VPV) when it was newly established in 2005, later moving to Ho Chi Minh City in 2008 where he worked for VPV until 2012. Despite the hard work he keeps a friendly attitude, an open mind toward volunteer, disabled children and a strong commitment toward community work Minh has worked in Partnership Development at Vietnam Technology Commercial Bank. In early 2016, he started working for CSDS’s newly opened office in the South.
